Music Ministry
Bob is our Music Director and joined the staff on a part-time basis in February 2010. In addition to guiding our music program, Bob is a full-time police officer with the Wayne Police Department. Bob was married this past spring; his family now includes wife Dawn, daughter Cierra and son Giovanni (born 10/30/2010).
The Music Director is to direct, coordinate and/or perform music that is liturgically appropriate for parish liturgies and other designated celebrations. As such, his duties include:
- Plan all music for liturgies
- Play music at all weekend liturgies and oversee the change or use of music aids (books, sheet music, etc.)
- Maintain the parish music library and necessary music licenses
- Play music at all sacraments/celebrations: Confirmation, First Eucharist and Reconciliation (if requested)
- Train and supervise members of the choirs, cantors, and youth instrumentalists. Coordinate weekend music with the New Spirit Singers and other musicians
- Approve any musician that will play at any liturgy (wedding, daily Mass, funeral, etc.)
- Oversee music policy and approve music for weddings
- Arrange for substitutes during absence or vacation
- Oversee the upkeep of church instruments and sound equipment, e.g. arrange for maintenance on the piano and organ, take care of sound equipment in church, etc.; assist in straightening the song books in the pews
- Provide music for all major feast days, parish celebrations, healing Masses and other church services, especially the Lenten programs (Stations of the Cross, etc.)
- Coordinate with other choirs, including ecumenical choirs, when needed by the parish
- Plan and rehearse the choir once a week from September through May
- Attend Worship Commission meetings once a month
- Coordinate with Religious Formation for prayer services and other worship experiences. Work with Bible School program in the summer
- Prepare and oversee an operating budget for the music department.
